First, please visit the following article and check if your device can run Wallboard:

https://www.wallboard.us/knowledge-base/about-our-lg-webos-client

The installation process is easy. You have two options:

  1. Installation from a USB drive
  2. Installation from server

Before any installations you need to prepare your screen:

  • Ensure your screen is factory reset and set the basic settings

    * Also set up Ethernet of WiFi connection

  • Set the system time
  • Restart your LG Digital Signage device and connect a mouse and keyboard (you might need to use a USB Hub)

Installation from a USB drive:

  • Download the app from 'http://[YOURSERVER]/api/storage/update/lg/[your brand name]-lg-client.ipk' to your computer
    -Example: http://editor.wallboard.info/api/storage/update/lg/wallboard-lg-client.ipk
  • Create a folder called 'application' in the root of your USB drive
  • Copy the .ipk file into this folder
  • Rename the file to 'com.lg.app.signage.ipk'
  • Insert the USB drive
  • Enter the settings menu (press the cog icon on the remote controller)
  • Navigate to 'Ez Setting' -> 'SI Server Setting' -> 'SI Server Setting
  1. First set the 'Application Launch Mode' to 'Local'
  2. Second set the 'Application Type' to 'IPK'
  3. Third set the 'Local Application Upgrade' to 'USB'
  • Confirm your intent to install the application
  • After the copying has finished you have to reboot the device with the power button
  • You can run your digital signage app from the homescreen (press the house icon on the remote)
  • You may remove the USB Hub (USB Drive, keyboard, and mouse) now
  • Your application has been installed, now you have to configure it

Installation from server:

  • Enter the settings menu (press the cog icon on the remote controller)
  • Navigate to 'Ez Setting' -> 'SI Server Setting' -> 'SI Server Setting'
  • First, set 'Fully Qualified Domain Name' to 'On'
  • Second, enter 'http://YOURSERVER/api/storage/update/lg/lg-client.ipk' into the input field below
  • Third set the 'Application Launch Mode' to 'Local'
  • Fourth set the 'Application Type' to 'IPK'
  • Finally set the 'Local Application Upgrade' to 'REMOTE'
  • Confirm your intent to install the application
  • If the FQDN is misspelled you will see an error message and have to modify the URL
  • After the download has finished you have to reboot the device with the power button
  • You can run the app 'Wallboard' (or your application) from the home screen (press the home icon on the remote)
  • Your application has been installed, now you have to configure it

Batch installation from the server with settings from a USB drive:

If you find it inconvenient to set server settings on the device, you have another option:

1. Create a file  named 'scap_installation.json' on your computer with the following:

2. Copy this file into the root of the USB drive

3. Insert the USB drive into the device and start/reboot it

4. Then follow the steps from 7 on (of Installation from server)

To check which OS or firmware version is installed on the device:

  1. Enter the settings menu (the cog icon on the remote)
  2. Navigate to 'General' -> 'System Information'
    1. Click on 'Update' and wait till the process finishes

If you have more than one device you may find it tiring to manually set everything on all of your devices. In this case, you have the option to set everything on one device and copy – paste the configuration to other devices:

  1. Enter the settings menu (press the cog icon on the remote)
  2. Insert a USB drive into your device
  3. Navigate to 'Ez Setting' -> 'Setting Data Cloning'
  4. On the first device push 'Export Setting Data'
  5. On the other devices push 'Import Setting Data'
